Pico do Facho Viewpoint
Pico do Facho is one of the best viewpoints above Machico on Madeira’s east coast. From the summit area, the view stretches across Machico Bay, the mountains of the island’s interior and towards Ponta de São Lourenço.
History and character
The name Facho refers to a beacon or signal fire. Elevated points such as this were historically useful for watching the coast and signalling approaching ships. Today, the road and short final approach make Pico do Facho a popular stop for visitors who want a high viewpoint without a long mountain hike.
